I graduated with my MFA in Creative Writing from Arizona State University in December, 2010. I am revising and adding stories to my  collection, Parrot Love.

My short story, "Twenty-Five Random Things About Me" was a Top-25 Winner in Glimmer Train's Winter 2010 Fiction Open. There were more than a thousand entries.  It was the first story I'd submitted anywhere and I was happy with such a good showing. Now, I need to send some more out.

I also had a guest post at The Parking Lot Confessional.

The Boulder Bookstore has asked me to teach classes this fall.  Check my schedule for details.

For homeschooling, Max finished up Colorado History this summer and is digging into Greek culture this fall, He's particularly excited about studying Alexander the  Great and loves mythology. We are also continuing our Latin studies. We are both excited to be starting Tom Sawyer and we have a lot of other great books (of course) on our reading list. His enrichment programs include Options, the city of Boulder's Homeschool PE program and a Video Game Designing program.

Michael and I just fiinshed celebrating our one-year anniversary.  It's been amazing!

A Few of My Endeavors
What's New
Camp Culinary
My husband Michael DeBoer is a trained chef and he runs his own in-home private cooking school in the Boulder and Denver area. He teaches kids and adults methodologies, not recipes. What I like about his teaching style is that he is a knowledgeable but fun. He's branched out into cooking parties and culinary team building events.  Please check us out!

The Boulder Writers' Workshop
I started this as a meetup group in 2008 when I was spending the summer in Boulder and felt a need for the company of other writers.  We've since absorbed a writing group in Broomfield and have nearly 700 members. We offer six to seven low-cost workshops each month.

Associated Writing Coaches
So many people have asked me to help them become writing coaches that I started an organization to do just that.  We are just in our beginning stages but are growing fast.

A Few of My Favorites
Poets & Writers
This is one of the writing magazines I read regularly for inspiration and to keep up with the industry.  The classifieds are a great resource.  I also really like the editor, Mary Gannon, who I've visited spent some time with at a few conferences. She is a warm, engaging woman.

The Parking Lot Confessional
My dear friend Amy Nichols is the brains and beauty behind this writers' blog, on which I've guest posted. (And hope to again in the future.)  In additon to writing short stories and YA novels, she edits a literary journal for teens called Liminal Journal.,

Sonya Goodwin-Hemmings, my former editor at American West Airlines Magazine, was the one who inspired me to homeschool my son. (She also happens to be my go-to person for client editing.) You can read all about her experiences at her blog, Hemmings Half Dozen..
